Super Paper Mario

Last week I got an email from Nintendo about Super Paper Mario, and I was pretty excited. The one thing I really wanted to know was when it would be released, but no indication on any of the pages. A day or so later I happened to be at Movie Gallery and my son came running up to me saying “they have it!” I think I was excited as he was, so we rented it.

I’ve been playing Mario for at least 20 years now on various systems and I’m happy to say Super Paper Mario doesn’t disappoint.

The name is a bit of a misnomer (at least from where I’m at in the game) because I haven’t seen anything about paper. I think it might be a reference to the 2d side scrolling action. The game also incorporates 3d, flipping, upside-down, play and a few other things that add dimension (literally) to the game. The game also makes fairly good use of the Wii remote. You use it as a spotlight on hidden elements of the game, and on certain special items you have to turn it, or shake it to achieve the desired result.

Overall we were both really happy with the game, the only thing that might add to the game is two player mode, but we were content to take turns. It was good old fashion fun with a modern twist for both young and old gamers. This game is a keeper.
